“The island of Lamu in Kenya, where I live, has in many ways been shaped by the intense contacts with the Arab world between the 17th and 19th centuries. The influence from Oman in particular remains clearly visible today, especially in the architecture. The perfectly plastered arches and symmetrical lines recall the refined culture of that era and form a perfect setting for my works.”
